ICS Student Organizations Forge Strong Ties in Recent Consultation
24 February 2024

The Institute of Computer Science Student Organizations Consultation was held on February 19, 2024, at ICS Lecture Hall 4. The event was attended by representatives from the four Computer Science student organizations, namely the Alliance of Computer Science Students – UPLB (ACSS), UPLB Computer Science Society (UPLB COSS), UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society (UPLB-MASS), and Young Software Engineers’ Society (YSES). The event was spearheaded by Assoc. Prof. Maria Art Antonette D. Clariño, ICS Director, Mr. Ariel B. Doria, Assistant to the Director for Student Matters, and Asst. Prof. Juan Miguel J. Bawagan, head of the Student Welfare and Discipline Committee.

During the consultation, each participating student organization was given ten minutes to discuss their planned events for the 2nd Semester of the academic year 2023-2024 and to address their concerns with the institute’s administrators.

Subsidized facility utilization for student organizations’ events was one of the main topics discussed at the event. Director Clariño emphasized that ICS facilities are for Computer Science students and can be used for their academic development as organizations. Recognitions for the organizations were also discussed to ensure continuous communication between the student organizations and the institute’s administrators.

Each student participant received a certificate of participation and pledged their support for the next consultation in the upcoming academic year.

The consultation was conducted to support Director Clariño’s vision of a strong and consistent linkage between the institute and its student organizations by reinstating institute-level recognition and providing benefits such as subsidized facility utilization.
