ICS Week 2024: Career Talks

The Institute of Computer Science presented a series of enlightening career talks as part of ICS Week 2024 celebration. Held last April 16 and April 18, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at ICS Mega Hall, these sessions featured talks and brought together a lineup of six distinguished ICS alumni sharing their expertise and experiences with the attendees. The event was organized by the Computer Training and Extension Division headed by Asst. Prof. Reginald Neil C. Recario.

Stephanie Robles-Benedicto

Stef, a UPLB alumna with a B.S. degree in Computer Science, boasts a remarkable 12-year tenure at FactSet. As the Data Solutions Senior Engineering Manager and Site Reliability Engineering Lead, she has empowered global software engineering teams to support a diverse range of financial products. Her outstanding achievements include winning the Steve Jobs Award for Creativity in 2021 and being recognized as one of the top engineering trainers. Stef’s dedication to learning and development, coupled with her ability to harness individuals’ strengths, exemplifies the transformative impact of effective training and coaching in the field.

Grey Esteban

Grey Esteban, a software development industry entrepreneur with over 10 years of experience, specializes in iOS development and has built a successful career in mobile app creation. He’s also a passionate musician and writer, making him a multi-talented industry leader. Attendees were captivated by his journey and inspired by his diverse talents.

Mc Elvin Batiles

Mc Elvin Batiles, a Senior Engineer in Test with over a decade of experience, is a pro at test strategies, automation frameworks, and collaboration. He’s also a proven leader with experience managing engineering teams. Mc Elvin’s session provided valuable insights into the exciting world of software testing, leaving the audience eager to learn more.

Sho Akiyama

Sho Akiyama, a versatile ML Engineer and Full-Stack Developer with a unique background in Animation Direction, shared his diverse experience across frontend, backend, ML, infrastructure, and leadership positions. Sho’s insights into navigating the dynamic tech landscape and mastering core skills were invaluable to aspiring tech professionals.

Kevin Lloyd Bernal

Kevin Lloyd Bernal, a Machine Learning Data Scientist at Zyte, leverages his skills to drive innovation in LLM performance and efficient crawler development. Kevin’s session offered a deep dive into how AI is shaping the future of data extraction, providing attendees with a glimpse into cutting-edge technologies.

John O-Neil Geronimo

John O-Neil Geronimo, who recently completed his MS in Computer Science with a minor in Information Technology, specializes in integrating advanced CNN tools to automatically identify freshwater microalgae and diatom species in the Philippines. Sir O-Neil’s commitment to teaching and research underscored the significant opportunities for aspiring academics to drive positive societal change and leave a lasting legacy.
